February's NONPROFIT:

Grand Rapids public museum school

Community service project in partnership with Urban Roots to create an urban garden.

Help students in Grand Rapids learn about food production, sustainability, and agriculture. The fundraiser for this month will help establish a community resource that can be utilized by future students, many of whom qualify for reduced/free lunch. This program is a part of a large urban school district that serves primarily under- resourced children for whom food scarcity is a real issue.

Along with their nonprofit partner, Urban Roots, the students and staff will work on the construction, maintenance and care of an urban garden. Along with other GRPS students they will have opportunities to utilize and learn in the garden environment. The garden will provide an ongoing resource for educational programming, professional development, collaboration, and food production.

As always, you can benefit our monthly non-profits simply by dining with us throughout the month and especially on our Event Day- Monday, February 27th where 50% of food sales will be donated.

Charitable Giving:

Mitten Foundation

Each month, the Mitten Foundation will partner with a different local non-profit organization in an effort to raise both funds and awareness. With the help of its staff and customers, the Mitten has raised more than $100,000 for local organizations since opening in 2012.

The foundation's criteria for choosing non-profit partners is twofold: the organization must be local or have a strong local presence, and they must be small enough that the donation will make a measurable difference. The foundation strives to connect each dollar donated to the effect it has.

The Mitten Brewing Company was humbled to receive the West Michigan Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professional’s 2015 “President’s Award” in recognition of its commitment to fundraising. The company plans to expand its community involvement efforts as it grows, and they recently started an employee volunteer program that provides staff with opportunities to become personally involved with non-profit partners.

For more information about the Mitten Foundation’s monthly non-profit partners, how you can get involved with the foundation, and all other donation inquiries, please contact Non-Profit & Event Coordinator Dana Mate Dones at dana@mittenbrewing.com
